CEDAW Monitoring Report- 1995-2004
SILAKA has engaged with South East Asia WATCH (SEAWATCH) to conduct
the Country Monitoring Reports in Cambodia under the Theme of “Gender
Equality, Equity and Non-discrimination on Power Relations and Agency.”
The report will focus on Agenda Number 7 of the Beijing Declaration for
Action (BPFA), which is Women in power and decision making. The report
will look into the statistics covering women in leadership positions in
different institution in Government and elected officials positions, in
NGOs, in trade Unions, in Educational institutions, in cooperatives, and
in business firm. The report will also look into the problems and
difficulties experienced by women in the leadership positions. Policies
will be examined on women rights to vote, and the proportion of women to
men voters, from major political parties. Other policies and measures to
upgrade women participation including the policy on affirmative actions
and special situation of discriminated groups of women. The study will
also write up 2 case studies covering a breakthrough/significant
policies that were adopted during the policy and one government agency
in the executive branch that is in charge of hard development areas such
as trade, poverty policy, finance, and securities areas.
Cambodia is one of the 5 countries covers in Southeast Asia in this
special study. The other four countries are Thailand, Malaysia,
Philippines, and Indonesia. The partner of this study is the Friedrich
Ebert Stiftung of Germany.
Mrs. Thida Khus and Mr. Sourn Phearith of SILAKA are
the researchers and writers for the Cambodia Study. The study is
expected to conclude on June 15, 2004. A workshop to share the finding
among the countries reports is expected to follow in July 2004.
