Networking

On the National Level:

  • Star Kampuchea:
    SILAKA is a member organization of Star Kampuchea. SILAKA collaborated with other local organizations to organize events during the year. For 2006, SILAKA actively participate in the advocacy team to develop advocacy agenda and implement monitoring activities with participations from other members.
     
  • The Coordinating Committee for Cambodia:
    SILAKA also is a member of the Coordinating Committee for Cambodia, (CCC) a membership organization in Cambodia. CCC served as information sharing among key NGOs operating in Cambodia and is channel of communication with the Cambodian Government. In 2006, SILAKA, represented by Mrs. Thida Khus, represented CCC in the Country Consultative meeting with country donors and government to discuss joint monitory indicators for 2006.
     
  • PEACE Forum:
    SILAKA is also member of an informal Peace Forum formed to share information among organizations and individuals working on peace, and non violence in Cambodia. This year, Peace Forum has moved to be coordinated by Australian Relief Committee.
     
  • NGO Committee on CEDAW:
    SILAKA also is a member of the NGO Committee on CEDAW. This year SILAKA was sponsored by UNIFEM Cambodia to the 34th UN meeting session, when Cambodia presented the 3rd report on the country. Ms. Thida Khus represented SILAKA among the other 5 NGO representatives in advocating with the committee on issues affecting Cambodian Women. A parallel report was submitted to the committee. Two short statements were developed and read to the committee during the hearing.
     
  • The Committee to Promote Women in Political Participation (CPWP):
    SILAKA is a member of the CPWP. The CPWP was formed with the purpose to promote women in political participation. For 2006-07, CWPW developed activities to advocate and promote women in the commune elections. The strategy will include lobbying and advocating, media campaign, organizing grassroots forums, training to candidates of political parties, and research.
     

On the Regional and International Level

  • Ms. Thida C. Khus, sat on the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asian Committee For Advocacy (SEACA), a regional project, working to build capacity of civil society actors in eight countries: Cambodia, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and East Timor. The project is supported by DFID, a British government funding agency, through the project holder of the Catholic Institute of International Relations in Great Britain. Through this relationship, SILAKA was able to send two staff to two week workshops on participatory action research. Other NGOs’ staff working in the field of advocacy benefited from the training on advocacy and media work. SEACA has its secretariat in Manila, Philippines..
     
  • Social Watch Asia and Social Watch International: SILAKA is a member of Social Watch Asia and Social Watch International. Social Watch International is an advocacy organization on social development issues.  SILAKA authored the country report on the state of Cambodia published in Social Watch International’s Annual Report for the past two years.
