Cambodian Development for Decentralization and Conflict Resolution Project (CDD-CR)

This project seeks to build capacity on decentralization and conflict resolution among community leaders, Commune Council members, village leaders, village people and monks in Kg. Thom province and Svay Rieng province. CTP conducts training on decentralization, conflict resolution, basic planning, leadership and selected law. The training modules are accomplished by implementation assignments and follow-up sessions to enhance action, reflection, learning and planning of participant’s activities concerning newly gained knowledge. Advisory, material and small grant support is provided to encourage participants in their activities. We also help to set up networks among the trainees to reflect, learn and share experience with each other. After the end of a training cycle a selected number of participants are invited to join a Training of Trainers with the objective to educate new trainers on the subjects and increase the training activities in the provinces. The project is in its second phase and so far has been supported by USAID through PACT, UNCOHCHR, CIDA and DED. The third phase will start in October 2004.

Capacity Building of Peace Activists and Conflict Resolution Practitioners Project (CBP-CR) (starting 2005)

The CBP-CR project aims to strengthen peace activists and conflict resolution practitioners in NGOs, government institutions, community groups and unions. A package training consisting of 5 modules, each 1-week, over the period 1 year, aims to provide a comprehensive capacity building on the following subjects:

Module 1 Conflict Understanding Conflict Analysis Communication

Module 2 Conflict Resolution Gender Awareness

Module 3 Active Non-violence Advocacy

Module 4 Stress Management Mindful Peace-building Counseling

Module 5 Training of Trainers

CTP provides curriculum and coordinates the capacity building project. Metathor/CTP’s trainers and trainers from partner organizations are conducting the training. A Training of Trainers at the end of the training cycle aims to strengthen the participants skills to enable them to conduct own training and awareness raising on the subjects. The training is open to applicants who wish to become activists and trainers on conflict resolution and peace-building. In 2005 the training is open to applicants from various backgrounds. From 2006 the capacity building project will move to focus on participants from specific work sectors, i.e. unions, woman, etc.
