The Consultation of the ASEAN Commission on Women and Children

Phnom Penh, Cambodia- On 6th October 2009, SILAKA Executive Director, Mrs. Thida Khus and Mr. Yem Makara participated in joint consultation meeting of various women and children organizations at the National Institute of Education (NIE). The consultation was opened by H.E. Chou Bun Eng, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior. Mrs. Thida Khus was invited to present the introduction to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights.
The objectives of the meeting were to:

  1. Raise awareness of women and children human rights group on the development of the ASEAN system and process with the focus on the development of AICHR, ACWC, and ACMW.
  2. To share information on the result of the Southeast Asia Regional Women’s Human Rights Strategy Meeting on the ASEAN structures and
  3. Processes in Chiang Mai 8-10 August 2009 in Bangkok and civil society’s statement on the Political Declaration for AICHR on 24 August 2009 by SAPA and TF-AHR;
  4. To consult with CSO on the re-establishment of National Mechanism on ACWC and develop civil society advocacy strategy for local, national, and regional level.
