Goals:

  • Increase women in commune and sangkats from 9 to 15% in 2007 through promoting political parties using 30% quota system and in place women candidates at the top list.
  • Promote NGO and associations and the media to support the promotion to the above goal to the general public on the importance of gender and women representatively in the communes and sangkats.
  • Increase the capacity of local organizations to increase capacity of women candidates in developing proposal, organizing, and implementing their campaign in public forums based on sharing knowledge, techniques, experiences and resources.
Activities:
  1. Advocacy and lobbying under the theme "Working together to increase women representatives in the election".
    • Organize high level meetings officially and unofficially with influential officials, such as Ministers, National political parties leaders, and the King to seek support to the women agenda stated above.
    • Engage with local authorities, government, and the National Election commission with the purpose to eliminate all form of discrimination and violence against women.
  2. Training to women candidates on: Women in Decision Making.
    • Organize 3 days training to candidates from political parties. Topics for training include: What is politic, How to mount an election campaign, set up a fund raising project, how to building network of volunteers and the role of the members of the sangkat and commune councils.
  3. Advocacy campaign through the media with the theme: Vote for political parties with women candidates at the top list.
    • Round table discussion, develop materials for information campaign such as Karaok, TV and radio spots, to be campaign will be issue on gender, the sangkat/commune election and the role model of women commune counselors, on what they brought to their communes and how their families have supported them.
    • Drama session on the theme set above.
  4. Public Forum on the theme: Social Development and Women in Decision Making.
    • Organize public forum with the participation from leaders, local authorities, and electors to discuss on the issue and participate in educational activities on the subject.
  5. Survey to find out the perception on women leadership at the grassroots level .
    • Help inform government policy making, the platforms of political parties in forthcoming elections, and the advocacy strategies and messages of civil society organizations in Cambodia in developing media and education campaign to promote greater political representation and leadership of women.
